Fear Stalks the Streets

Fear Stalks the Streets

Fear Seldom confines itself to one particular place,

it becomes a malignant force for all to face.

No matter on which side of the wall you live on,

it permeates the mind and soul of everyone.

Those who instigate fear come from an ignorant breed,

they derive their hatred and vitriol from the same seed.

Their motives are riddled with prejudice and hate,

as they can be found in any nation or state.

When fear is manifest in violence and destruction,

they have begun a journey on the road to perdition.

Whatever their cause they have already lost the fight,

because they are mistaken to think they are right.

Evil feeds off resentment and fear, this is quite clear,

they abandon morals and ideals to promote fear.

When their rampage is over and their victims are dead,

do we see the futility of all that we dread.

Fear needs to be confronted before it takes root,

before the aggressor is able to put in the boot.

People must awaken from their slumber and apathy,

and challenge this vile unwanted monstrosity.

Thank you Stephen for your comment and all who expressed a like for this poem. We live in difficult times which makes many of us fearful of the future. I believe that it is fear itself which creates anxiety. We must remain steadfast as we have in times past and not be overcome by it.
Thank again,
Keith

A good point, Keith. It is often fear, and not actual events, which drives people indoors and allows violence to prosper.
