The Little People

The Little People

We the little people are now better educated,

better informed and less vulnerable to deceit.

Once upon a time we gave authority to our 'betters',

now we know that we are as good as them.

No longer are the little people going to be misled,

we can read, write and think for ourselves.

We read between the lines unlike before,

and understand what corruption really means.

The times are changing but the political elite has not,

throughout the world the little voices are being heard.

No more edited news or propaganda is believed,

the 'ancien regime' has its days numbered,

The little people will show them the door.

Genuine equality, human rights, integrity and decency are here,

step down from your lofty platforms as your time is running out.

The little people have arrived in town

and the rubicon has been crossed.

Standby for the new dawn,

when we no longer 'cut the lawn'.

Thank you to all who both commented and liked this poem. I appreciated your interest as it encourages me to write more. Uilleam the title of the poem is 'The Little People' not the 'Little Minds' that read Der Heil a well known National Socialist Daily Rag. MC., perhaps you would have us return to being governed by the psuedo aristocracy of the past. The poem strongly suggests that we live in an age when the majority of the populace is reasonably well educated and able to make up their minds and no longer be misguided as has been the case in recent years. The present calibre of our politicians, irrespective of party, is at best mediocre and that is me being kind.
Thank you all again,
Keith

The irony, of course, is that the current (and recent) glut of politicians in Parliament are selected from the little people
around today. Are we really any better off?

So much said between the lines. I agree with you and as Manish reminds us, the times they are a changing. Indeed, they are.
The little people must stand tall,
If they ever wish to view beyond the wall.

Thanks Keith.
I frequently listen to "the little people" whilst imbibing the amber nectar.
I'm in turn amused / horrified by people (who I otherwise regard as friends), trotting out the racist dog-whistle clickbait phraseology word for word from the Daily Heil and Torygraph etc.

That's great, Keith!

"Now we know that we are as good as them" indeed and as the makers and growers and cleaners and mowers of lawns in fact better.

Thank you.

I LOVED this poem, Keith. I'm a person who comes from a place where people believe and stand for equality. Clearly the times have changed as major population have been persuaded towards basic education and current affairs. "The times are changing but the political elite has not", is so rightfully written. Politics has always deceived us in ways that we hadn't expected, and is continuing to, at least for most of us. I loved the title "The Little People", so intriguing in itself, and yes, it's the little people and their voices that has, is and will be making drastic changes in the days to come.
Thank you for this brave, uplifting poem. You are a gem, as I've always said!😊✨
