Amputee
These injuries may limit my future path,
An IED blast, I'm the aftermath.
But don't you disregard me, my heart is true,
This soldier's bulldog spirit shines through.
Whilst abilities appear restricted,
Physically and mentally afflicted
Self-pity trumped, perseverance prevails,
My unyielding tenacity never fails.
Challenges demand much strength and resilience,
Each step taken, considered significant
This body bears witness to scars deep from war,
Tangible damage to my character's core,
Profound injuries shall never define
how I should live my life, my rhythm and rhyme
A British lion's heart beats unconfined.
A bit bruised and battered, yet unresigned.
I fully appreciate I'm in your thoughts
Grateful for your prayers and all your support
Though I could not in my time right many wrongs.
This heart remains loyal, unbroken, and strong

Lovely rhythm and a glorious conclusion, JD. A moving read.
