Elusive Mystery
The eluding ghost of life is time itself
One quick breath sent to the past
A second of life whisked off the shelf
Nothing left but the shadow it cast
Our lives are but cascading seconds
Like rapid water spilling over falls
Live does not linger but quickly runs
Fleeting snapshots the mind recalls
Time moves steadily beyond our sight
It leaves us stumbling, always a step behind
Constantly reaching, always saying,” Not quite”
Our days are long and full inside our mind
But in our heart of hearts, we truly know
That the dust of living trails behind us all
Decaying seconds moving in an endless flow
Across the universe as tiny specks so small
We blink and all the seconds now have gone
Absorbed into the substance of the galaxy
Into the cosmic climax we have been drawn
Now an intimate part of that evasive mystery
