Call it Dreamin'
I knew from the very beginning
that the sun would rise,
teaching me to cast my eyes to heaven.
Cloudy days are like sacrifices:
to compensate we had the green
and water worlds, tall trees and dappled sunlight.
Some would like the world to be clean again,
a pre-lapsarian garden of Eden. I would.
…….
I knew from the very beginning that my heart was tender
easily broken. I learnt there is no balm for the earth’s hurt,
there is no point fooling around, pretending, time is short,
wounds sometimes heal if we seek redemption and pray.
…….
I knew from the very beginning
that I couldn’t live with eyes closed,
mind and senses anaesthetised,
permanently marooned on the barren island of self
to develop a dryness of manner, an arrogance of soul,
alienating those who endure closed lives of repetition.
……..
Simple used to be a high compliment, as holy fools attest,
denying the astringent vortex of doubt and casuistry,
we walk in shade and sun, lay out a platter of dreams,
walk, stumble, run, towards these dreams.
Now I am so tired from all this walking and thinking
that I miss the dawn, live too much at night,
seek a cure in dreams, spells and incantations;
it is high time to give many gifts of time and love
beneath our holy brother sun.
