BACK IN THE SEVENTIES

Chicken in a basket

jokes at the mike

bingo days, foggy days

queues at bus stops

frost at the fingertips

red and black in the clubs.

The dying breath of thoughtful machines

the clearances of industrial scenes

roundabouts under predatory skies

cigarette smoke spiralling at the bars

on the dole in busy pubs.

Detectives in flairs

travelling in pairs

the last of the heists collars felt

the disease of sleaze on the rise

under predatory skies.

Thanks everyone for the likes: Philip, Hugh, Holden, Pete and Tim.

Thanks Uillleam for pointing out that line, an outstanding example being the expenses scandal. What would Richi make of that now I wonder. The term "heart" is a condradiction in terms of course!

Oh Yes, Stephen so true. Many friends of mine were caught on the old breathalyzer when it first came in. I was stopped in the early hours by police and asked where I had just been. I said: " Buckingham Palace" - a long silence ensued. I followed it with "it was the staff dance., i'm a musician." "Oh right you are," one said non commitally....

You capture a lot of the spirit of the time in this, Ray. Cigarette smoke and remarks like 'I drove home and I don't remember a thing about it.'
