Socks

I love my socks

They keep my feet

Nice and cozy in the sleet

They live between my foot and shoe

And  do what socks all like to do

Some people keep them on in bed

To stop the chilblains going red

Some fold them up nice and neat

And put them on the cozy heat

Ready  for the morning run

In the rain or in the sun.

Through the puddles and the snow

To keep the tosies all a glow

Depending on the type of sock

Worn with trousers or with frocks

Some are thick and some are thin

But once worn out go in the bin

Socks of course develop holes

Generally just on the soles

But I wonder do black socks

Do they Develop huge black holes.?

Some people have sock misuse

With definitely sock abuse

Filled with lead for violent cosh

Or filled with jam to strain the mush

But my lovely socks

Fill me with dread

stumbling sleepily

Out of bed

As actually getting them on

Is challenging and often wrong

Inside out is just the worst

Seam inside and big toe first

Hopping round the bedroom floor

Sock in hand , I’ll try once more

I give my foot another pass

Before I fall flat on my arse

I guess I’ll now sit on the bed

And slide them on , oh these are red

They’ll keep my company all the day

While I work and while I play

I love my socks they contain my toes

Inspiring me to write  these prose

My fingers they are  not loved

As I hardly ever wear my gloves .

“and went to bed contented”.
I did some work at a coal mine in Hungary some years back, Pete. The miners there didn’t wear socks but wrapped cloths around their feet. Surprisingly effective and comfortable..

Great idea. Lovely last bit about fingers. I’ll feel sorry for fingers from now on, and will remember to wear gloves a little more often.
