Common Sense
Look about the void with an unrelenting eye
Antiquated thinking hasn’t traveled far
On the beliefs of crowd mentality don’t rely
Inebriated spirits scheme in the pews of bars
Delusional conspiracies being loosely hatched
Theories floating in the brain’s pickled brine
From well-worn constructs rebuilt and patched
Reminiscent of old ghost conspiring across the Rhine
Shadows hiding in the darkness wicked and depraved
Hidden in the water’s depth like the dust of yester year
Echoing voices of loathing from the past that once raved
Wearily we walk ocean shores wondering what’s yet to fear
Death’s whisper can be heard beneath the mantra’s vile moan
As it declares things thought to be new, their own sacred creed
Humanity’s eternal ugliness is not new and as in the past it’s shown
As common sense is cast aside, and ignorance is allowed to lead
As I look now into the void of truth, I see a twisted gnarled throne
A jester of deceit sits upon his pyrite throne built from copious lies
His falsehoods turned to truth by repetition, lies that he shall hone
Those lacking common sense will repeat his treachery in their cries
Wisdom floats along with the centuries, hidden in the silence of space
Unspoken words that ride on the tongues of sages waiting for its release
Painful wisdom learned from hatred’s failures by a forgetful human race
Insights built on irrefutable truth rooted in a common sense that needs to increase

Brilliantly written, has depths and wisdom, a superb poem!
