A Moral Hub

A Moral Hub

A grievance beckons attention.

On Campus it ferments.

Voices of incipient protest.

A cry for action Now!

A wrong has been committed.

An injustice perpetrated.

Meetings called, the stage is set.

Committes formed.

Faculties informed.

A tented encampment built.

Slogans shouted and daubed on canvas.

Loudspeakers echo discontent

Calls for action promulgated.

A resistance movement formed.

Students join its ranks.

From all walks of life.

Faculty members rally in support.

United in determination.

To see wrongs put right.

The media arrive as do the Police.

The Protest is peaceful.

Its aims expressed.

Then the voices of intrasigence from all sides.

Stalemate is reached.

Shouts and squabbles break out.

Action demanded by all to disperse the mob.

Finally anger and violence.

Then the refusal to surrender.

Threats made to expel students.

Attempts to silence their voices.

They remain steadfast.

The moral hub has the high ground.

The world sees it.

All was not lost.

History will commend them.

Well intentioned youth making a fuss?
Nothing new there - it was ever thus! 😋

Thank you to all who expressed 'likes' and those who commented on this poem. I cannot but be impressed with the up and coming generation who are prepared to stand up for justice and peace in the full knowledge that they could lose their places at university and seriously affect their careers. I salute them for their courage in the face of corrupt governments.
Thank you,
Keith

A fine poem, Keith. I am usually quite sceptical about student protests but you put the case very well here.

This reminded me of reportage Keith.
A line by line what happened next.
I think you have it all here.
I was listening to an old protester from 1964 in USA
Kent State University vis-a-vis the Viet Nam draft issues.
Amazing how these things develop
The secret is identifying the place where the agitators become involved.
It's all downhill after that!
