Memory Scents

Memory Scents

I used to buy Mum flowers

Put them in a vase

Their petals fell where Mum

looked out the living room window

Their scent filled the room.

Dad now buys Mum flowers

Puts them in a vase

Their petals fall where Mum

is now buried.

I urged Dad not to buy plastic flowers

because the scent of real flowers

fills me with memories of Mum

I bet she can smell those memories from below.
