Memento Mori
Reminiscing nostalgically,
I ask. Have you pursued life ecstatically?
Have you chased it fully with determined tenacity?
Have you gained your life's well-spent validity?
Or, tragically and drastically
Have you succumbed to someone else's gravity?
Given in passively to their selfish vanity.
Their unending capacity for indulgent banality.
There’s always an unenviable possibility
That, without hope, you’ll lose credibility
Worthwhile only for your quiet flexibility
As well as a capacity for malleability
Ultimately, there is one inevitability,
To our mobility and life’s fragility
That dream of attainability
Is now marked by stone, the end of mortality
Don’t treat life with a contemptibility
Understand we owe ourselves responsibility
It’s your life. Be the best you can single-handedly.
Whatever you do, don’t reminisce regrettably
