Final Slide

So, this is the final slide,

The night feels long and dull,

And the teardrops are hard to hide

As we walk back to null.

Our destinies were prepared

But we weren’t,

The house that we called home

Will soon be on rent,

My legs feel heavy,

I wonder how you feel…

This mask of forced smile

Is begging to be peeled.

So, this is the final slide,

We walk this night

At an unusually slow pace,

Knowing that tomorrow

We’ll not be sharing

The same space.

The moon stares back at us

From an unfathomable height,

It’s mighty full,

But lacks the light,

We might just go ahead

And give each other a final hug,

Only to know that tomorrow’s arms

Wouldn’t feel warm and snug.

As we go back from

One soul to two

After the tightest hug,

My pendant clings onto you,

Your lips urge to meet mine

For one last time,

But your mind warns

To not cross the line.

So, this is the final slide,

The house that held us

Together and joined,

Is standing just fine,

As if we will be meeting

Here again in a forward time.

My heart doesn’t want to disperse

In the long corridor;

I still wish to walk in pairs,

But you hurry ahead

And take the stairs,

And the night no longer feels long,

Somewhere through the corridor

Echoes a sorrowful song.

And I walk away from there

With a heart too heavy to bear,

Do not ask me of my eyes,

Or it’s uncontrollable tide,

For in such unfathomable moments,

Teardrops are hard to hide.

I think the strength of this one is in its simplicity. It draws out the pain that languishes in understanding the outcome. It draws a comparison to the final walk of death row knowing what the outcome will be.
Excellent!
