School Days

School days were fun…

The excitement and exhilaration

Would wake me up

Before the sun.

Toasts, eggs, cereal,

Indian-pancakes or buns,

I’d eat anything served

And demand for none.

Cycling along with a friend

Used to feel more elating than

Being on a school-bus

That’d easily transcend.

English and vocabulary

Were simply the best,

And chemistry was a

Mind and patience test.

Ancient history was an

Intriguing painting set

On a century-old canvas,

While politics was for timepass.

But when came the turn of

Trigonometry and calculus,

I would find desperate ways

To walk out of the class,

To peacefully lay on

The lush-green grass,

Before fiercely chasing

Down the evening sun.

Now and then, I watch

Some kids spiritedly run,

And I think to myself…

School days were fun.

I just wanted to comment. To say that I really appreciate your blog Manish. And it's truly a pleasure to be part of your Write Out Loud-journey.

Can't explain it, but some things defy explanation.

I'm overwhelmed by the responses that I've received for this one, thank you all for the likes, and Tim, Martin, M.C., and Graham for commenting.
Martin, it was the opposite to me, haha! I found the rest of the math pretty interesting.
M.C., chemistry alone had left me cold and confused a lot of times as far as I can remember, sometimes physics too.
Tim and Graham, I'm glad that you both liked it and connected with it. Thank you very much.😊

I agree, mine were too, especially Athletics in summer sunshine (I'm sure it didn't always).

Schooldays are rich pasture for poetry, the place, the time, the people, all ripe for nostalgic words as you've written so adeptly here Manish

An enjoyable piece of nostalgia, bringing back the fun and the pain of schooldays and the sense of freedom before and after
school itself. Certain subjects were a form of torture for me...
chemistry and the various higher versions of maths left me cold
and confused - then and now. Just as well humanity is so
adaptable and able to use its preferences to add to the overall
richness of adult existence.

An interesting piece of schooldays and those parts of school life either liked or not. Strangely trigonometry I didn't find so bad. It was the rest of Maths I found baffling.
Nice one
