Nothing More
All I hear is the tinnitus ring
And a fan
My heart is beating
But I don't feel alive
Numb to the pain of being alive
I assert a separate role
This body laid on the laminate floor
But my spirit is elsewhere
Exit the body
And enter the stratosphere
Watching a planet
Peopled with busy lives
And anxious thoughts
The pain of lost lives and broken hearts
Where did we find the audacity
To call ourselves anything more
Than inhabitants
Living on a much larger, living body
I touch my scars
And feel the pain of countless lives
I close my eyes
And I see the cosmos
Peering into my life
Nothing more than a moment in time
