Colors
I see many colors in my world, millions of shades between each one
Yet, you want me to divide, separate and categorize all that I see
To choose a single color while all the others I am to simply shun
How can I ignore all the shades there are, each different by a degree
They give this earthly painting its beauty, a treasure for our eyes
I refuse to accept your singular sight; I reject your twisted view
Of the world painted with bold, single strokes of colored lies
I have seen the colors and all their shades; I know it to be true
That the world is better balanced in its shades of harmony
Then if we tried to paint her in single colors like red or green or blue
My life is a blend of shades from everything in this world I see
All the colors of my living, all the shades from joy to pain
Are splashed upon this canvas that stretches through the years
Why would I try to separate them, what could I possibly gain?
I will not stop the colors from flowing freely over your fears
For I do not share your prejudice, your blindness or your hate
I will not join your crusade to paint the universe simply black or white
You will not suck the color from my vision; change the color of my fate
Even if you close my eyes all the shades of darkness will be in my sight.

Thank you, Helene for your gracious comment. I feel equally honored being called Tom, a slip that I honestly don't mind. 😃
