Loneliness
Loneliness is feeling isolated even when someone stands beside us,
A companion who shares our days but leaves our soul empty.
Surrounded by familiar faces, we doubt if they truly love, value, or respect us.
When our days feel like wasted moments, irretrievable and lost.
When dreams and goals fade into “I’ll never succeed,”
And we’re consumed by the fear of being the failure we see ourselves as.
Smiling while your heart aches in silence—an unseen torment to others,
Yet present in every breath you take.
Emotional instability acts like a fleeting balm,
Like pills that promise joy but deliver only momentary relief.
Once alone, darkness returns,
Wrapping us in an invisible cloak that deepens our despair.
Loneliness feeds the mind with dark thoughts,
Leading us to make choices that harm only ourselves.
We endure pain for the sake of others’ happiness,
Striving to uplift those around us while neglecting our own needs,
When we should be the focus of our own care.
And who heals us then?
Time?
That’s a mystery I still can’t solve…
Sometimes we just need to be reminded of our worth to others.
Perhaps that acknowledgment would offer solace, filling us with the love we give but rarely receive.
But at day’s end, as we ponder the “what ifs,”
Loneliness is the only companion left.
