LOOKING FOR A STATESMAN

Now is the Starmer of our Discontent made furious summer by this stunted talk

And all the crowds that lower'd on our house are in the deep bosom of this England buried.

So, to satisfy certain mindsets, it is thought I should condemn
mob violence on this site. OK...no problem, I condemn mob violence, as if that isn't a "given" from anyone who has known
it and dealt with it. As the Aussies might say: Strewth! Would
you believe it?! In the meantime, I'm content to let WOL
readers come to their own conclusions about what has been
said - and by whom. Evening all. 😏

"Show me where I have ever condoned or excused mob violence."
The saying: "The only thing necessary for the triumph of evil is for good men to do nothing", is appropriate here.
I was educated in the Christian religion, and was taught that there is such a thing as "Committing a Sin of Omission". I would include making light of the telling of downright lies and "half-truths" which have resulted in grave harm to individuals and to society in that category.

I would maintain that you have still failed to condemn the current mob violence by the far right, MC. But I will leave it there for now. The overwhelming strength of the turnout in Britain's cities on Wednesday night to demonstrate rejection of views and behaviour that you, at the very least, appear to sympathise with, and possibly condone, has given me fresh heart and hope about the direction our country is going.

I think that humbug deserves a degree of mockery and by gum
we need to retain it when faced with the political posturing
today. I am accused to "trying to be clever about the violence"
by a contributor who plants the name of a tireless "questioner"
of what is going on in a strange "list" of nature's products that
are risky to humans if handled carelessly. Let us set that
against the conduct of those in power whose disgraceful
failures "to protect and preserve" are first and foremost in the
undisputed category of "cause". Show me where I have ever
condoned or excused mob violence. I won't be holding my
breath. I have faced it first hand and managed to retain a
certain detached weary tolerance of those who condemn
when it suits but excuse/justify it in other circumstances.

This can’t be easy for you, MC. On the one hand protesters against immigration and on the other the police.

I don't think trying to be clever about the violence, fear and hate on our streets is a good look for anyone, let alone a former police officer.
