A Perfect World

In my infancy I only remember darkness

The stillness, a damp and murky existence

Only very occasionally feeling any movement

It seemed that this was it…my life

The strangest thing was the feeling of growth;

slowly forming in the black wilderness

Seemingly taking up more room than usual

and a sensation of not being alone in here?

Time passed very slowly in the endless darkness,

but strangely feeling stronger,

I looked, suddenly there it was!

What I now understand to be light

It seemed to seep in, eradicating the blackness

Bringing a sensation of release and freedom

Very soon my lower half was still enclosed

but now I could see what appeared to be

a new world.

Colours; greens, browns, together with

blue and white high above me

A blowing sensation now rippling through

my upper half. It was refreshing not cold

Sun beating down on me, drying out

the rough edges I now seem to have.

Then a huge shock, I was feeling very wet

This wasn’t dark dampness, but exhilarating

I now know it to be the main source of my

existence, water from the rain showers

Combined with the wind and sun I feel so free

Now I’m a strong, healthy, sturdy tree!
