Old

entry picture

Autumn has arrived once more
The season of brilliant hues
Just before the winter blues

Now I am in my senior years
I am hoping to take things slow
But you never know
Which way things are going to go
Where will the wind blow

The future is looking bleak
I am feeling so weak

Old
A cross that I have to bear
A burden that I cannot share
A government that doesn't care
No winter fuel allowance for me
While MPs get theirs for free
Old
What am I to do
When the cold is turning me blue

I put in a shift of fifty years
Paid my dues the full amount
But for nothing does it count

A labour party newly in power
Broken promises then lies
My what a surprise
The vulnerable we will protect
But all they do is neglect

Old
Nobody gives a shit
You are just a silly old git
You're own your own mate
Make a will it's never too late
You decide to eat or heat
Try fasting to make your life complete
Old
What am I to do
When the cold is turning me blue

The winter is upon me now
I'm down on my knees
And you will let me freeze

Old
A cross that I have to bear
A burden that I cannot share
A government that doesn't care
No winter fuel allowance for me
While MPs get theirs for free
Old
What am I to do
When the cold is turning me blue

Good try MC.
But so-called "Labour" abandoned all "pretence" long ago.

UOC - not sure of your comment. The word "purports" could be
replaced by "pretends" in this context. Isn't that a legitimate
observation on this Labour administration?

Many thanks for your comments: M C. Newberry, Stephen G & Uilleam. I dread to think what the budget on October 30th will bring. 🙂

Great audio Tom, the poignancy of your words seems all the greater with that.

"...the socialism it purports to represent". That's totally untrue, MC.
Any genuine socialists in New Labour were years ago evicted / purged / smeared / libelled / slandered.

A fitting response to an ideology that's cruelly selective in the
social aspect of the socialism it purports to represent This is
so blatant it almost defies belief. But you'd better believe it - and
be prepared for more selective policies according to its political
preference in intent and aim. Looks like a painful period to be
endured in UK life.

Thanks Tom.
A labour government in name only. Starmer means to carry on where B.Liar left off....doing Thatcher's job...kiss good bye to the NHS, and to nationalised public services. Compassionate Democratic Socialism is dead under this lot.

Well written, Tom. I don't live in the UK, but this seems to be a terrible (and unnecessary) scandal. A Labour government, as you point out.
