Gracefully

Age gracefully, darling,

accept that your body can't bounce around like it used to.

It's okay that your steps are slow and dust settles throughout your house,

undisturbed by hands that spend more time folded in contemplation than scurrying around cleaning.

Accept that there's not much scurrying anymore.

But notice how laughter comes more easily.

How few things really matter when the end of the road is in sight!

Certainly not dust.

Indeed, from dust you were made to dust you shall return.

So smile as you saunter slowly through your days.

Relax deeply into the nothingness of your days.

Laugh deeply too.

Aging gracefully is delightfully fun, things take on a different perspective...

dust is for drawing hearts,

clutter is for sporadic archaeological exploration,

(oh my, look what I found!),

hands are for grateful contemplation,

and time is for dancing inside the stillness.

We should all wear more purple as we age, Hélène. Lovely poem.

A warm, wise poem, Hélène. So beautifully written, it seems to reflect this phase of relaxed, enjoyable days.

Thank you Hélène.
It's just that the bits of my body that do bounce, shouldn't, and the bits that shouldn't bounce, do.
