IT AIN'T ME, BABE

entry picture

We voted in our millions – our democratic say;

The Tories were defeated; we blew Rees Mogg away;

But once we'd taken office we very quickly found

They'd hidden a black hole from us of £20b.

It needed rectifying come what may

But it ain't me, babe

No, no, no, it ain't me, babe

It ain't me what's gonna pay.

The deficit wants funding – on that we all agreed

We cannot go on as before; we said “It's what we need”

Expenditure needs income, for better or for worse

There has to be a “come from”; there has to be a purse.

It won't work to simply hope and pray

But it ain't me, babe

No, no, no, it ain't me, babe

It ain't me what's gonna pay.

The privilege of rich folks I say should be axed

And anyone more wealthy than I am should be taxed

But wealth is like a ladder or wealth is like a queue

And those who are behind me they shout “Hey! Well why not you?”

But hypocrisy will hold the sway

But it ain't me, babe

No, no, no, it ain't me, babe

It ain't me what's gonna pay.

You point your finger outwards; J'accuse-ing someone else

What's yours is not for sharing; you keep it for yourself;

You say you're looking for someone to pick up Rachel's bill

To fall upon their sword for you, ensuring you pay Nil

Someone that allows you to bray

"It's not me, babe

No, no, no, it ain't me, babe

It ain't me what's gonna pay."

Thankyou, Stephen. A mature observation.

Well done, John. A nice piece that will make lots of us feel uncomfortable, as we should be.

I’m no economist, Uilleam, but I’m not sure about quantative easing. If it’s the solution why doesn’t South Somalia issue to itself a few hundred trillion dollars and make itself the richest country in the world?
And thanks for the Like, Tom.

MC, far from sidestepping the issue, socialism tackles it head-on.
The “No Money Left” argument, aimed at denigrating socialist humanitarian values is a complete load of hollyhocks, endlessly trotted out by the right-wing press and so-called “think-tanks”.

• The note left by Liam Byrne was intended as a joke; it was not based on fact and was an imitation of the note left by the TORY Chancellor Reg Maudling for his successor Jim Callaghan which said: "good luck old cock, sorry to leave it in a mess".

• The very idea that there could be “no money left” is complete fantasy. The Bank of England is somewhat God-like, in that money, like the Universe, can be created out of nothing; indeed, during the global crisis of 2007-08, £375 billion was created through the process of “quantitative easing”.

If each contributing according to their means is sidestepping the issue, MC, then who should pay?

Good work as usual in this contributor's chosen style. But this
old guy remembers how certain socialist politicians would
boast about "making the pips squeak" and leave office with
the mocking sign-off that there was nothing left for the incoming
Tories. In short - the story in a nutshell of the constant theme
of incompetence with the nation's finances and who gets what
when in charge of the practicalities of office.
Let each contribute according to their means neatly sidesteps the
corresponding essential reality: Who pays for the things they
seize so readily? Not them, it seems.

Not the finest endorsement of the democratic will, Uilleam. And thanks for the Likes, Tobani and Red Brick.

You keep coming out with that one, John.😏
I'm afraid that at my age, I have neither the energy nor the resources with which to stand.
I would certainly be incapable of fighting the vile smears and lies perpetrated in recent years, by politicians and their client media on behalf of a fascist genocial regime; lies which deprived the UK citizens of a just socialist government.
There are however, people waiting patiently in the wings, and our time will come.💗

The solution is obvious, Uilleam. You should stand yourself. All you need are another 20,000 people to agree with you.

Thanks John.
No, we didn't defeat the Tories. The other cheek ( which I didn't vote for) is still in power.
Let each contribute according to their means; the only way to a just and peaceful society.
That's Socialism in my book.
