The Rumour Mill...
Listen to them talking their sharing inane nonsense overheard but not by intention
Spreading gossip, rumour and hearsay told as solid facts getting other’s attention
“Did you hear about Gemma? She’s brazenly seeing Guy behind Steve’s back!”
“Well I heard she’s pregnant, a friend of a friend told me it’s a totally true fact!”
And so it continues sharing stories of acquaintances and supposed friends
I seems the rumour-mill is rife with tall stories to be believed; the prattle never ends
“What about Alan, rumour has it his business is for sure soon going to go under”
“Yeah and Susan’s only with him for the money, another marriage asunder”
“She’s twenty years younger than him, it can’t really be about to true love, hey?”
“If he goes under it won’t be too long before Susan leaves him and goes on her way”
More gossip, more rumours, more filling in the blanks, yet still told as the facts
For a world so judgmental, sharing slander, as the crowd gleefully reacts
“I’ve heard they’re arming for war, although they seem peaceful, that’s a smokescreen”
“We’d better arm as well, then we’re ready for them when they attack unforeseen”
“How about another plan with the element of surprise, how about we fire first?”
“Great idea, they’ll never know what hit ‘em,
give them a rapid artillery burst!”
Turns out they weren’t arming after all, poor intelligence and misinformation to blame
A rogue faction from our military we’ll tell them, sorry for your deaths, what a shame
Thoughtless rumour, gossip and prattle cause of so much strife since time immemorial
That most of this stuff isn’t true and causes pain through its spreading seems immaterial
Lessons still to be learned it seems…
