Jack in a box

Jack was a boy who struggled in school

Getting suspended ...for breaking the rules

He would wonder the streets and rob out the shops

Take milk from the doorsteps and lead from roof tops

His mum was an addict his dad wasn't there

Troubled young Jack got put in to care

Stuck in the system.. Jack's just a number

From pillar to post now split from his brother

He's mixing with bad kids.. they're older than him

For once in Jack's life He feels he fits in

The men buy him clothes and sample him flavours

Paying him bits for doing small favours

Top of the world now Jack's living nice

Until he lands up in prison gets hooked on spice

So it's prison and street life for the next few years

Receding hairline and jailhouse ink tears

Jack wants to change but he doesn't know how

He feels tired of the battles he's given up now

It's December he's wearing a short sleeve top

Multi storey car park he's perched at the top

Aggressive Storms block the view for miles

he sees his whole life before his eyes..Before jack jumps he smiles

Thanks, Sarah
Stuck in the system....and it's getting worse for people with problems- mental or otherwise; the welfare state has been steadily dismantled over the last two decades.

I like the rhythm and rhyme of this story poem. Endings are not always happy, but stories need to be told.
