Now and Forever
Now and Forever
Barely detectable to those in the vicinity.
A nudge to the conscience at most.
Perhaps it was a glitch in the matrix,
Or an insignificant memory lapse.
She was compassionate and vaguely familiar,
But her name escaped him for now.
She gazed into his pale blue eyes,
Recalling the moment they first met her own.
An instant connection she thought would last forever.
Searching for his recognition, holding her emotions close,
Her vision began to blur and forced a retreat,
Avoiding more pain through inquisition.
She smelt of meadows and floral soap,
And her smile was even sweeter.
She was so close, he could almost breathe her in.
His nostrils consumed the essence of her,
And his pulse quickened, leaving him gasping.
Overwhelmed, he demanded she leave him.
She witnessed his distress,
Felt their atmosphere become uncomfortable.
Time to get back to the empty house,
That used to be a home. Their home.
She released those close-held emotions,
And wept, knowing that forever was here.
