'An Audience of Chimneys' The Rooftop Beatles
No support act…no merchandise to sell.
No publicity, just a fantastic story to tell!
No lavish surroundings, not part of a Tour.
It was the final live appearance of the Fab 4!
In their basement Studio in 3 Savile Row.
The band discussed ideas of a grand show.
But they decided to play on the roof instead.
‘An audience of chimneys’ funny George said!
No screaming fans, no dodging Jelly Beans.
No security cops, and no hysterical scenes!
Just the 4 Scouse lads and Billy Preston too.
All Captured forever by a 26 man film crew.
A performance that lasted 42 minutes in all.
All 5 new numbers written by John and Paul.
As during rehearsals, George let it be known.
He didn’t want numbers in the set of his own.
5 great songs, 9 takes and banter in between.
Also a brief rendition of ‘God Save The Queen’
This footage was part of their movie ‘Let It Be’
It was an iconic send off for the world to see.
As hoped for, the Met Police would intervene.
Cops, Dagg and Shayler arrived at the scene.
Their concern was noise and disruption below.
Eventually the 2 Ray’s put an end to the show!
So, The Beatles bowed out in a unique way.
That was their final time, live on stage to play.
After their last song…a witty remark by John.
And then it was all over, The Beatles were gone.
