Echoed fragments of time
There was a time when,
this world stood still,
when life had neither intent nor will.
When a cold snap became the age of ice,
when seas froze, not once, not twice.
When giant dinosaurs roamed the world,
and luscious leaves on giant ferns unfurled.
When meteors haphazardly crashed,
and Cretaceous life died out en masse.
When early man discovered fire,
warmed gently as the flames grew higher.
When civilisations slowly stirred,
The birth of the poetic written word.
When jealousy’s ship beached the shore,
“Peace in our time,” turned to war.
When I once interested you,
Though it seems now that I no longer do.
When peace in our time turned to war,
Uninterested, I was considered a bore.
When we hurled abuse and hostility,
unstirred by any sense of civility.
When we cooled throughout,
Watched the flame of passion die out.
When free-falling, our love disbanded,
ultimately, love ended as we crash-landed.
When togetherness once happily manufactured,
suddenly froze and then finally fractured.
When we watched, hopelessly standing still,
as love concluded, no more intent, nor will.
