Beneath A Tyrant's Boot

High tension in Turkey - Cartooning for Peace

They dragged him from his rightful place,
With chains of lies, they bind his grace.
A mayor strong, a people's voice,
Now silenced by a tyrant's choice.

His crime? To win where one might fail,
To show that change could still prevail.
But truth is crushed beneath the weight
Of he who rules with fear and hate.

The streets are filled with muffled cries,
Yet protests fall where silence lies.
For banners torn and voices drowned,
The law now serves a king uncrowned.

The press is gagged, the screens go black,
A journalist dares not look back.
To speak a word, to share a thought,
Is now a crime for which you're caught.

The people march, defy the chains,
But threats and batons end their gains.
Yet still, their anger burns so bright—
A fire that dares to challenge might.

He fabricates his plots with ease,
Invents new foes when power needs.
A man, a mayor, locked away,
A rival crushed before the fray.

But chains will snap, and walls will fall,
No tyrant lives to rule us all.
A nation’s will is hard to kill,
And truth remains unbroken still.

Naomi, TOM MERTON. Thank's a lot!

To Stephen: Yes, the times are turbulent, unpredictable and the outcome open - but not auspicious. Let's hope for the best.

To Tom: Thank you very much for your particularly nice comment and compliment. That feels so good.

Kind regards,
Rolph

You have summed this frightening situation up in fluid verse, Rolph. The last four lines give us all hope, which is sorely needed at the moment.

Thanks for this.
