Trompe L'oeil

the days glide by unnoticed,

so too the growing of a child,

both moving imperceptibly,

an unstoppable, irrepressible

cycle cleverly tricking our

eyes with recurring familiarity

that blinds us,

as time feigns to stand still

life and age trickle forward,

the young blossom as the old

begin to fade, both changing

slowly without ceremony as

days glide past unnoticed,

perpetual, unrelenting

Graham,
Your "piece" masterfully conveys the quiet illusion of time slipping by. Life shifts imperceptibly, yet inevitably, and you express that truth with such elegance and depth.
Cheers,
Rolph

One can almost feel the 'imperceptible' passage of time in this poem, Graham. I like the idea of people changing 'without ceremony'. Two Ukrainian boys living near to us have changed into young men in what seems to be the blink of an eye. (A case of 'Trompe d'oeil', I suppose!).
