Memory Lane
Born in 1958, Liverpool was my playground.
I asked for nothing, always felt safe and sound.
We played footy with a patched up burst ball.
Forever outdoors, until we heard our Mum call.
No telly, the latest gadgets, what were they?
We learnt to invent so many games to play!
We played where fun took us, took a risk or 2!
Often we got home…late and black and blue!
Never went on a holiday, we never asked why.
Only planes we saw, where up there in the sky.
Did that even matter, in those days certainly not?
In reality we had nothing, but felt we had the lot!
We accepted life as it was, we knew of no divide.
Everybody stuck together with a sense of pride.
We ate what we were given, we slept 3 in a bed.
We built up immune systems as tough as lead!
Good manners from an early age we were taught.
We got up to mischief…got punished if caught!
We played in the ‘bombdies’ full of rubble and dirt.
We would blame nobody else, if we ever got hurt!
I’m proud of my upbringing, I’d have it no other way.
Liverpool shaped my life, into the man I am today.
I was raised in tough times, over 66 years ago.
Would I swap it for a modern childhood, definitely no!

Reminds me of footy in my day, with an old leather 'caser' we had to slather with dubbin to try to keep it waterproof. Never really worked - it was like heading a cannonball!
Great memories Mike.
