Death's Journey

entry picture

And as a window opened for me

A travelling procession of angels

Glowing and free

Did tread upon the soft green grass

Singing soflty, a hymn of Purity

Save your sorrow for my dying day

For I am come to Love in hope

Leave my heart to cry in vain

My mind is bent to join the affray

Anger, hatred, toil and dammed souls

Claw the air, the mud, the grave

Falling towers, deluge and flood

Scourge the land where I once stood

Angels throw their light in vain

The mighty sword has cut the air

Oh great the pain, I feel its slice

I sense the fear in mans sorrowed plight

So, leaving my scene of death behind

I choose to share what fate has held

The tree of golden boughs

Weighs heavy with the strain to bear

I travel far I go alone

My God is gone but this world is fair

Striking swiftly I climb steep hills

Of faraway lands of distant shore

The mist is falling, my eyes are dim

But steadfastly on I move with calm

The Moon, it casts a silent glow

So in my weakness I fall for rest

Awaking on the morrows dawn

I stretch my arms, my mind is clear

And then, as calmed by solitude

I glanced a shape of beautious folds

Gliding slowly her face  of gold

Her hair of down and velvet glow

Did come across my lonely form

And wiped my brow, my heart, my soul

What is Thy name, my wondrous bride

Where comes thou from so quickly here

I am thy friend to soothe your brow

I am thy heart to give thee cheer

Oh come now from your place of sorrow

For much work is waiting on the morrow

Your soul has rested, your heart is healed

Take on thy work for which you craved

I cannot tarry for I am borrowed

To give you respite, so I give you leave

So, upon the day he saw her

After solace, after warmth and love

She left with grace no more to return

His heart was filled with grief and sorrow

Once more to break with pain and hurt

So, rising up he left the bower

And made his way once more with Angels Light

Upon his back he carried the Lamp

Which she had left to light his way

Great was his heart once more with fulfilment

Great was his soul no more to stray

It was many days and nights

Before ever he came on man

Many a month before seeing the village lights

But weary with the length of travel

He rested once more neath a tree of shade

And after his solace and after his pain

He spied once more the angels light

Oh if she were there my love my beauty

O how I crave for her healing love

How I yearn for her gentle embrace

But alas her face was formless

Her countenance was bare

All he could do was stand and stare

Greatly sorrowed that she was not there

Amongst the Angels stood a man

His face of glow his robe of white

Hail my soul friend, hail my brother

Oh how I wish that he were another

Do not fear, do not despair said he

For you have travelled far to see

You have toiled and you have suffered

But now I show you your hearts desire

And then amongst the holy gathering

Stepping lightly with grace and love

Came the bride whom he had prayed for

Holding flowers of purple spray

Hold my hand Oh gracious  Queen

Light my way once more with pride

Spread before us on fields of green

Fallen petals of rose and jasmine

A path to lead us to the gates of Home

vey nice, jean-lucy.. really enjoyed this - defo has a hymn / song like quality to this in places... it's possibly a little bit too long for my personal taste and the last stanza possibly should be split up, but i enjoyed this...x
