The Word

It's said of a good picture,

That it is worth a thousand words,

But well known laws demand,

That for each and every action,

So is sired an equal, opposing reaction,

And so this like all else,

Has a complete reverse.

But what word is worth,

Quite so many pictures as a whole?

And to shed ambiguity where

Pictures shed their light,

An important word well in sight,

To be had before crossing,

The all important mental toll

It is a word known to many,

But overlooked by so many passers-by,

Where the quizzical look on,

A word that is so often, in conversation, planted

That it is taken, too much, for granted,

Yet it is so essential,

The word is 'why?'

This is very interesting, Josh; I like the way your mind works. Actually, IMO, the word 'why' is the one word least taken for granted; so I don't quite follow your logic here. I find the last verse rather limps to a conclusion rather than whamming home a goal. In today's world, pictures can 'lie' as well as words. You cannot believe everything presented as 'proof' in a photo. This is a sad state of affairs, to have such a rich idea reduced to doubt. But a young, modern writer does have to consider these things. Always with respect, as you know. See you soon, I hope.
