mermaid wedding
the cave is dark and deep and wet
where all the mermaids hide
they keen and cry and pine to try
and catch a sailor lad
they swim in circles
at great speed
and he is sucked right down
a willing victim to their greed
oh what a way to drown
a mermaid wedding is the thing
a glorious sight to see
the sailor's final word is yes
as she says "marry me!"
to love a mermaid he must give
his heart his mind his home
but it is worth it for the love
that only he will know
i know I’m not a mermaid
but i've learned a thing or three
from sitting on my ragged rock
beside the stormy sea
that loves a thing that conquers all
ignore it if you dare
and when into the sea you fall
a mermaids waiting there!

This is so lovely, Ann. I was tempted to try a mermaid poem after Bernadette gave us the image, but I feel my attempts are rubbish in comparison, lol. Love, Lynn xxx
