If I Were...
I’d like to be a mermaid,
Swimming ’neath the sea.
I’d learn to swish my tail
Rather provocatively,
As I sit upon a rock,
Combing my long blonde hair,
I would find such happiness
Without a single care.
But if I were to get bored
With the deep blue sea,
Maybe a bird
Is what I’d rather be.
Flying freely in the sky,
Spreading my wings
And soaring up high.
A nightingale or lark,
Owl hunting in the dark,
Or better maybe a swallow
Flying off to warmer climes,
Searching for happier times.
If I were an elephant,
I would swing my trunk,
I’d soon get rid of enemies
If I were a skunk.
If I were a lion
I’d roar and roar and roar.
If I were a pig I’d wallow
In lovely mud and straw.
Sometimes I wonder what it’s like
To be my little pooch,
Stroked and pampered quite a lot,
Nothing to do but mooch.
Humans duly waiting on me
Hand and foot and paw,
Taking me on interesting walks.
Isn’t that what they are for?
So after many a strange muse,
I guess if I really have to choose,
Shouldn’t I just be me?
A poet writing whimsical verse,
After all, it could be worse.

Thanks for lovely comment, Stef. I am sure you are right, I can see them now eating fish fingers... lol. (Yes, madness is contagious!) ;) Lynn xxxxx
