Imprisoned Thoughts - (Freedom)
In Myanmar a young man paused
He thought the junta should go
He thought young monks were brave
He would thank them
But he daren’t speak
He might not grow old
His thoughts live
In the prison of fear
In Tehran a girls passes a college
With her chaperone
She wished she could attend
She would thrive there
But she daren’t speak
She might be beaten
Her thoughts dwell
In the prison of inequality
In Pyongyang an old man watched a parade
Impressed by strength
He felt hungry
For food not tanks
But he daren’t speak
He couldn’t face jail
His thoughts live
Imprisoned by frailty
In Beijing a woman sits outside a prison
Wonders why they execute so many
She thinks it must be wrong
She wanted justice
But she daren’t speak
She might be persecuted
Her thoughts hidden
Imprisoned and oppressed
In six continents babies are born
They’ll learn about their world
The children will grow
They’ll see what’s wrong
The young people will learn
They’ll demand justice
One day, not too far away
They’ll dare to speak
In numbers too strong
Their thoughts will break free
Imprisoned thoughts released
And the whole world will hear

It would be great to believe that that could happen Seamus. I think we'll all be nudging towards extinction before we sort all these problems out though. Shortages of natural resources and food seem to bring out man's worst possible instincts. Sorry to be so pessimistic - I do think the aspirations are very admirable. x
