lady day
He’d like to stay
But you never asked him
wait and wonder
How long
a student
In this embryo?
a relationship limbo
in kitchen she invited
after a crawling night out
Under harsh tubes flickered
The pair
The lighting unkind
nearly midnight
in a silent moment lifetime
there
he studied woodchip paper
and magnolia carless painting
Picking bits, then realising
It does not belong
hoping she wont notice
her back to him
clicked a kettle switch
“there..”she said smiling
And when body rotated
On ample hip
noticed
condensation
had dripped from
Vinyl onyx effect peeling
So many cups of love
had kissed.
The pair however,
missed
the opportunity
And the classroom closed
time dictated a cruel principle
so upon quick step
To station, the last bus back
home
reunited
wedlock-
a wasteland of necessity
tragic a pit of empty feelings
he loved, but only for the love of
home and her - an umbrella stand
his mighty hand shelters children
amply
he sleeps adjacent
and
awakes
a single day
Again.
With first thoughts
Guilty..yet tempered
With an excitement
An escape perhaps-
From monotone.

You say just enough...
but make me still wonder...
