Au revoir, mes amis

Oh dear. Poor old France. It’s all going wrong

Ever since Zinedine Zidane’s head-butt

They’ve been dans la merde, suddenly off-song

And now the Champs Elysee’s gates are shut

Sarkozy’s feeling dozy, in a rut

And Platini’s plateaued quite patently

The European Championship’s not got

The French in it much longer. C’est la vie.

Unless in the second half, like Turkey

The French find va va voom, and before long

The golden generation is kaput

La belle epoque is indeed history

But when the tolls of Notre Dame are rung

Les bleus will no longer have made the cut

◄ Let's look through ... the suburban window

Roast Croatia ►

Antonio

I am watching the Euro Cup here too. You right some teams got stronger and play better then in last few years. I remember Zinedine Zidane.

Italy, in contrast, celebrated their recovery from an opening defeat against the Dutch to move into the last eight - although they will lose influential midfield pair Andrea Pirlo and Gennaro Gattuso through suspension.

Coach Roberto Donadoni was under huge pressure before the game, but the world champions delivered when it mattered and can now go forward with renewed optimism.
Italy dominated what was a calamitous first 45 minutes for France - and it was only the wayward finishing of Luca Toni that kept the scoreline respectable.
Toni set the tone for his display after only three minutes when he collected a long ball but pulled his shot hopelessly wide.

As of TODAY- France 0-2 Italy & Netherlands 2-0 Romania

Thank you for making this European Cup commemorative in your poetry.

Fantastic write!

Kind Regards,
Zuzanna

brilliant Antonionionioni.
Since my partner moved in I don't get to watch the football. Now I can see the results, in rhyme if not in time; et en francais. Formidable! Merci!

Good one! ... I guess you've had the football on the TV.
