New writer Mia Darlone launches her comedy production Below the Belt.

Featuring cast from network TV and Channel M productions, and a risky sexual content, this debut production from Mia Darlone is set to grab attention at this year’s Not Part Of festival in Manchester.

Mia Darlone started performing her rude poetic monologues, (as characters such as Cockney Rhyming Slag), on stage around Manchester at the end of 2007. She has just written a short film called X-rayted, (about an amorous Radiographer) and is currently working on a comedy and a drama.

Below the Belt is a comedy about sex, written entirely in rhyming verse. The protagonist is a somewhat de-hinged sex therapist ?" an ethanol-dependant commitment-phobe with a sex addiction, who becomes increasingly uncouth and self-destructive throughout the play. It combines humour with some dark and sad moments.

“It was important to me to address the highs and lows of incorporating objects into your  sex life, namely root vegetables, musical instruments and everyone’s favourite….the horse. I think sexual crudity and toilet humour are under-celebrated.

 I have been so lucky to get a brilliant cast for this production and I’m confident we can have a successful run and take it onto bigger things.”

The Below the Belt cast are up and coming actors Channel M presenter and BBC writer Gerry McLaughlin, Natalie O’Brien, Chris Barlow, Emma McCullagh, Tracy Benson, Jamie Shelton and Mia Darlone.
