just the way it is
Sometimes the biggest effort
can have little effect,
and you're left with
a constant reminder,
like a knife in the gut.
Sometimes the smallest effort
rewards the most,
an efficient deluge
almost brimming over,
bringing satisfaction.
Sometimes, you perch on the fence,
neither easy nor hard,
and the end result is
usually the same.
Sometimes, no matter how
hard you try,
there is no reward.

Another good one, Kath. I like the way you aptly encapsulate major themes. From a reflective point of view on this poem, perhaps the 'problem' lies in looking for/expecting rewards.
