Kat Francois is a performance poet on with a strong reputation as a fearsome
performer, a skill which saw her become the first winner of the BBC 3 TV
Slam Poets show held in October 2004.
Emma McGordon was born in Whitehaven, West Cumbria in 1982. She
attended creative classes led by Barry MacSweeney when she was fifteen and
he relaunched his Blacksuede Boot Press to publish her first pamphlet
collection, The Hangman and the Stars, when she was seventeen. Her latest
publication is Generation Txt featuring six poets under the age of thirty.
James Knight is sort of a poet from Blackpool. He fuses hip hop rhyme
schemes and rythms with tales of male misfortune. He values live performance
during which his brash persona leaves exposed an unnerving backdrop of male
insecurities. He also subverts the concept of the holiday maker- common in
his native town, and has been known to tastefully pair white socks with
sandals.
Tony Walsh exploded onto the Manchester open mic scene in 2003. With
victories in the first Apples and Snakes "Seconds Out" slam and the 2005
Manchester Poetry Festival slam, Tony was soon guesting nationally including
at the Poetry and Words tent at Glastonbury Festival. Tony made his London
debut for Apples and Snakes in May 2006 whilst venues large and small have
included the Lowry Arts Centre, Urbis museum and Manchester Contact, Bolton
Octagon and Liverpool Everyman theatres.
A confident performer with a direct, accessible style, Tony's acclaimed live
set takes audiences on a rock and rollercoaster ride from comedy to tragedy,
from the deadly serious to the seriously deadly.
