A pre fest gig at Austin’s South Bar & Grill

It was my first gig I was on the bill

Wild birds in flight

Musical entertainment for the night

We al sat down and ordered our repast

I was surprised when mine came last

Burger, cheese and bacon with salady things

I managed to eat them all bit not the onion rings

Then the poetry scene was started and the scene was set

Hoping to make it my best event yet

When it was my turn I nearly thought “oh blimey”

When someone shouted “let’s hear it for the limey”

Said not with malice but good intent

Taken in the spirit of which it was meant

Hope they didn’t think it crude

When my first poem was about birds and them as food

We all read in our turn

Each others style we could learn

Poems about birds, cats and dogs

Never though heard about speckled frogs

I read about coming hear and coming very far

And what happened when I collected my car

So we all continued to read

Poems from inspirational seed

At the end of an evening of delight

We wished each other a pleasant good night

But my hopes of getting back were all in vain

Would you believe, I got lost again.
