Heights of lyricism 300ft underground
There’s an amazing chance to hear poetry 300ft underground in a Peak District cavern known as The Devil’s Arse when Mark Gwynne Jones and the Psychicbread perform a Buxton festival fringe show at Castleton on Saturday 16 July. From reflections on a B29 bomber that crashed in the High Peak, to the compelling story of the last gibbet in the Peak District and how it was a poet who ended the grisly practice, this new collection of lyrical works is inspired by some of the region’s most outstanding locations, and stories that connect the Peak to wider struggles and world history. The event, commissioned by Glassball Art Projects, will showcase a continuing project to write and record lyrical works in the places that inspired them.
It starts at 8pm. Entry: £9/8 child £6. Tickets: 0845 127 2190, www.buxtonoperahouse.org.uk/whats-on/lyric-in-limestone
