Last night at the Belvedere for Liverpool's Liver Bards
Liverpool open-mic night Liver Bards are hoping for fine weather on Monday 18 July so that poetry performers can strut their stuff in the open air outside the Belvedere pub in Sugnall Street off Falkner Street, near the Philharmonic Hall. But if the weather is cool or rainy then the poets will simply move into their regular meeting room inside the pub. Either way, the poetry will start shortly after 8pm.
However, this will be the last occasion that the Liver Bards meet at the Belvedere. Next month they will move to a larger venue – the elegant upstairs concert room at the Ship and Mitre pub in the centre of Liverpool, just a few minutes’ walk from Lime Street station.
MC and Welsh Poetry Competition winner Dave Costello said: “We are hoping to have a stylish al fresco night of farewell at the Belvedere. It’s a great little pub right in the heart of the Georgian quarter, and the landlord John has been very good to us, but the room we have there is simply too small for us. So we are delighted to announce that from Monday 15 August we are moving our regular Liverpool open-mic (third Monday of each month) to the Ship and Mitre. We will be using the splendid art deco concert room there, with its walnut-panelled walls. Otherwise our distinctive, quick-fire rounds of open-mic poetry will remain the same. All poets are given two four-minute performance slots on the night. Admission, as ever, will be free.”
