Roll up for the Malton festival poetry slam
The Speakers’ Corner, the team behind York's monthly poetry and performance nights, have got together with the organisers of the second Malton literature festival to present a poetry slam with cash prizes for the winning poets.
Speakers' Corner host Andy Humphrey will be MC for the night. There will be a special performance from guest judge Tristram Fane Saunders, who has performed at Latitude and supported Luke Wright on his recent tour.
Andy said: "We had a superb turn-out for the York poetry slam in March, when 31 poets went head-to-head to win the accolade of York poetry slam champion. I hope those poets who ventured down our way in March will be willing to head a little bit further up the A64 for what promises to be a spectacular night of the spoken word."
It takes place on Saturday 22 October at Suddaby's bar, 12 Wheelgate, Malton YO17 7HP. Doors open at 7.30 pm. Tickets at £2 can be bought on the door, in advance from Malton's tourist information office (telephone 01653 600 048) or reserved by emailing admin@vivalogue.com. Performers can sign up on the door for a 3-minute slot. For more information email thespeakerscorner@hotmail.co.uk.
The literature festival takes place from 21-23 October and features workshops, performances, author interviews, readings, and the announcement of the winners of this year's open creative writing competitions.
