THE IMPATIENT YEAR

Why do I sigh for autumn

When summer's sun is here?

For autumn mist cannot resist

The turning of the year.

And Yuletide's barely over

When fancy finds the spring

Then how I sigh for sapphire sky

And songbirds on the wing.

When days are lengthening lightly

With evenings moonlit clear

Why do I sigh for autumn

Now summer's sun is here?
