After a Long Day

entry picture

Moon flowers lemon scented
unfold like arms of lost lovers.
There's a scent of water,
meat roasting.
In my hair I wear
hibiscus.

Evening gives in to night
as my little world wheels away
birds fly to silhouetted trees,
nearby buildings
are swallowed in darkening air.

Within a held breath,
dizzy from wine,
the sea.
I touch the table,
move forward.

I love this moment in time, I can smell the scent of water, the meat roasting, the hibiscus. I can feel the end of the day closing in, and i wonder if when you write "I touch the table,
move forward"are you thinking "how lovely it all is" or "how tomorrow will be the same".

'Nearby buildings are swallowed in darkening air' - you've got a loverly slant to your tongue, chuck. And 'D:R' - aye, they certainly know how to make a cheese sarny in Utrecht [where I used to live] although, it has to be said, they don't know cheese from a rubber bathmat when it comes to variety. Edam? Gouda? Yes, and...? Where's the rest? All that apart - Holland yes; I fell in love with the place totally, Utrech' especially. Please recommend another of yours to read next. Are there any you're partic. proud of?

This is really good, Stella. An intensely felt moment on an enchanted evening is summoned up beautifully
