ZEBRA Poetry Film Festival - Berlin
From 9 -12 October 2008 the Literaturwerkstatt Berlin is organising the ZEBRA Poetry Film Festival, the international festival for poetry films.
Poets from Cocteau to Jandl to Handke have experimented with cinematographic forms of expression, while film-makers like Man Ray, James Algar and Tim Burton have made films inspired by poems. From 9 - 12 October, the Literaturwerkstatt Berlin will be showing over 150 new poetry films from all over the world at the 4th ZEBRA Poetry Film Festival, and will award prizes for the best Poetry Films.
From over 900 entries from 53 countries, a programme committee of film-makers and poets has selected the 29 participants for the competition. During the 4th ZEBRA Poetry Film Festival, an international jury will decide who the winners in the competition for prizes worth a total of EUR 10,000 will be.
As well as the competition, there will be a comprehensive programme focusing on specific countries and topics, poetry films for children, discussions and historical retrospectives.
The ZEBRA Poetry Film Festival has become established as the largest forum for the international poetry film and offers film-makers from all over the world the opportunity to exchange ideas and consolidate a basis for future work. It offers a platform for short films which deal with poems from an aesthetic or formal point of view or in terms of their content.
A project of the Literaturwerkstatt Berlin in cooperation with interfilm Berlin and with the financial support, for which we are grateful, of the Hauptstadtkulturfonds and the Goethe Institute. The ZEBRA Poetry Film Festival takes place as part of the poesiefestival berlin.
