poem
Blinding bright the winter light
strikes out against the chill
reviving life and spirit
as perched up atop the hill
it reaches through the laden clouds
strikes all who lay below
warms, restores, promotes, implores
instils a rosy glow
the visits though infrequent treats
remind us of the force
sustaining through truncated days
as the season wends its course
illuminated moments draw
us out to bask and feel
uplifting rays of golden joy
whilst though the cold we steal
too soon the noon then takes its leave
and rawness wraps its cloak
those few degrees which broke the freeze
did nothing save provoke
a lifting of the spirits and
a breaking of the spell
the sun goes now beyond the brow
it's time to bid farewell
renewed we are sustained we be
recharged to face the stark
the dying sun gives way to fate
once more cast to the dark
