By a Mountain Stream
I like to halt on a strenuous hike to dream
And rest a while by a mountain stream,
Listening to the different notes the waters sing
Swishing, swashing, splashing and murmuring.
I could live happily, high on a mountain wing
Close by the tumbling waters of an alpine spring,
Within hearing of the myriad tones merrily playing
Rippling, trickling, gurgling and rushing.
I love to tarry on the broad mountain flank
Or sitting in an alpine glade on a stream bank,
Watching the varying light the tumbling waters bring
Sparkling, glittering, foaming and dashing.
I could happily stay forever by a mountain stream
Where the air and the water are so clear, fresh and clean,
Immersed in the sights and sounds the water makes
In it’s eternal rhythm of crystal and white cascades.
