SWEET ALICE

Does anyone hereabouts remember sweet Alice?

Poor dreamer...how she longed to live in a palace.

But - sad to tell - it was her tragic fate

To be held back by her lowly estate.

She vanished without warning one cold afternoon,

Some say that it wasn't a moment too soon;

Her lofty ambitions gave others the vapours

When they much preferred to be in watching "Neighbours".

No sign of sweet Alice was ever discovered,

No trace of her whereabouts ever recovered;

But the servants at night down in Buckingham Palace

Swear blind they've seen someone who looks like sweet Alice..

Nah mate! For 25 years I've been living next door to Alice . I don't know why she's leaving or where she's gunna go ....So I buried her under the patio. Your poems are right in my comfort zone.

JC - I was minded to dedicate this to Jack Pascoe (from whence came the inspiration) and
call it "Alice Doesn't Live Here Any More".
As for your information about Christopher Robin...
I couldn't possibly comment but I understand
he is being paid by a certain new Sunday newspaper for his story!

I don't think she was the innocent you imply, MC. That Christopher Robin said he'd gone down on her.
