Leeds Peace Poetry's Olympics truce contest

entry picture

Leeds Peace Poetry competition is inviting entries on an interpretation of the theme of Olympic truce. The concept of the Olympic truce was established as part of the ancient Greek Olympics, when a period of truce was announced before and during each Olympic festival, to allow visitors and competitors to travel safely to the Games. During the truce, wars were suspended, armies were prohibited from threatening the Games, and legal cases and the carrying out of death penalties were forbidden.

The deadline is 23 March. Individual or collective entries are welcomed in three age categories - primary schools, secondary schools and open/adult, with cash prizes available for winning submissions.

Entries should be no longer than 24 lines, previously unpublished and limited to a maximum of two per person. All entries must include contact details & the category entered. Submit by email to poetry@t4p.org.uk or at www.t4p.org.uk, or by post to Leeds Peace Poetry, Together For Peace, PO Box 803, Leeds LS1 9NG. Unfortunately postal entries cannot be returned.
